Viking Strap Junction Cast In Bronze, 10th-13th Century AD.
Viking Strap Junction Cast In Bronze, 10th-13th Century AD.
A Convex Bronze Boss with Five Radiating D-shaped Plaques to the edge, a Cruciform Motif with The Pierced Centre, crossed Flat-Section Straps to The Reverse.
Early medieval casting had deep traditions since the Bronze Age. The Viking Age process probably looked quite the same as it already had done for a couple of thousand years. If the Bronze Age was the golden age of bronze casting, the craft didn't die with the coming of iron. Metal casting still played an important social part in the production of jewellery and prestige objects, production of social codes telling about identity and belonging, of sworn fidelity and of alliances.
