Viking Bronze Strap Cruciform Junction Mount, 10th-12th Century AD.
Viking Bronze Strap Cruciform Junction Mount, 10th-12th Century AD.
Comprising of a segmented dome and four short arms. Property of an American Collector acquired in 1980-2000.
Early medieval casting had deep traditions since the Bronze Age. The Viking Age process probably looked quite the same as it already had done for a couple of thousand years. If the Bronze Age was the golden age of bronze casting, the craft didn't die with the coming of iron. Metal casting still played an important social part in the production of jewellery and prestige objects, production of social codes telling about identity and belonging; of sworn fidelity and of alliances.
