Porcelain Vase, Oriental Cobalt Blue, Peacock Scene and Flowers, Round Base, Bulbous Body, Inverted Long Neck with Two Ornate Handles, Wide Lip. 

 

The mineral Cobalt, which has historically significant sources in Persia, Saxony and China, is crushed into a blue pigment and used in ceramic decoration. Ultramarine blue is derived from lapis lazuli, a semi-precious stone, and is consequently very expensive, Its prized for its vivid colour and general stability.
