Porcelain Dalmatian, White with Black Markings.
Dalmatians are a large breed of dog well known for their unique black or liver spotted coat. Their roots can be traced back to the historical region of Dalmatia, and also Croatia. In it's earlier days, this breed was commonly used as a Carrier Dog but has since been popular as a family pet. They have also been entered into Kennel Club competitions by dog enthusiasts. Interestingly, Dalmatian puppies are born without any spots, but simply with a plain white coat. Their spots begin making its appearance within 3 to 4 weeks after their birth, and in a months time, they acquire most of their spots and throughout their lifespan, they continue to develop them, only at a decreased rate. These spots are commonly black or brown in colour, but have also occasionally appeared in dark to pale yellow, bluish grey, mosaic or brindle patterned, and tricoloured; with sizes ranging from 30 to 60 mm. Their litters consist of about six to nine puppies at a time, however, on rare instances, larger litters have been known to take place such as a massive eighteen puppy brood born in the UK on the 7th of January, 2009 (all were healthy). The Dog's name was Buttons and was ironically the pup of the Dalmatian that was in Disney's '102 Dalmations'.
