Colonial statues are a kind of wooden figurative sculpture within African art, which originated during the colonial period. These statues depict commonly European settlers (for example, civil servants, doctors, soldiers, and technicians) or they europeanize the African middle class. The figures are often characterized by recurring motifs, such as helmets, suits, official uniforms or tobacco pipes. They are painted in bright colours or they are polished with plant-based paints or not at all.

The first European colonization wave took place from the early 15th century (with the Portuguese conquest of Ceuta in 1415) until the early 19th-century (French invasion of Algeria in 1830), and primarily involved the European colonization of the Americas, though it also included the establishment of European colonies.
