The WFUNA was Established In 1946, WFUNA aims To Promote The Ideals Of The United Nations (UN) and Engage Global Citizens In Its Mission. One Fascinating aspect Of WFUNA’s History Is Its Lithograph Program, which Began In 1966 To Commemorate The Organization’s 30th Anniversary. As Part Of This Program, WFUNA Collaborated with Renowned Artists To Create Limited-Edition Lithographs.

Liam Roberts, an Irish artist, hails from Bunclody, Co. Wexford, Ireland, and currently resides and works in New York City. His artistic journey has been shaped by a rich educational background:

  • 1966-67: Studied and painted in Rome.
  • 1963-64: Attended the Royal Academy of the Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid.
  • 1962-63: Trained at the Academy of the Fine Arts in Florence.
  • 1961-62: Enrolled at The National College of Art in Dublin.

Roberts is known for his captivating artworks, which span various mediums and styles. Here are some highlights from his career:

  1. Large-Scale Murals

    • In 1997, he created a mural for the stairwell wall (approximately 18 x 18 feet) of the Avrett penthouse residence in Beekman Place, Manhattan. This mural, painted on eight canvas panels, is an interpretation of Ambrogio Lorenzetti’s fresco “Good Government in the City,” which resides in the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena.
    • In 1968, Roberts worked on a mural for the Cowles Communications Group in Des Moines, IA (measuring 9 x 20 feet).
    • He also contributed a painting for the church of San Girolamo in Fiesole, Florence (measuring 14 x 9 feet).
  2. Collections

    • His works are part of collections across the globe, including Belgium, Canada, Colombia, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy (Rome and Florence), Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, Switzerland, and various states in the United States.
    • Notably, he executed a commission for the United Nations, creating a painting to commemorate the eradication of smallpox. This painting was reproduced in a limited edition.
